Amazon Reaches Out To iOS Developers

A new opportunity may be on the way for iOS developers whose apps aren’t exactly on the cutting edge with respect to graphics.  Reports indicate that Amazon is trying to convince some developers to port their apps to the Kindle.

Daniel Eran Dilger wrote yesterday afternoon, “Henri Hansen, the developer of Atomium, a periodic table reference app that sells for $0.99 in the App Store, contacted AppleInsider to note that Amazon had invited him via email to bring the app to Kindle, noting that the company was especially interested in educational apps.”

Then Dilger continued, “The company has arranged a March 29 conference call to discuss its Kindle app plans with third party developers.”

That’s not as exciting as it might be, we know; it would have been better to hear about huge cash prizes for developers who cooperate.

Also, many developers have worked hard to make their apps look great, and the fact that good graphics could exclude them from Amazon’s target group is sure to annoy some folks.

Still, the Kindle’s limitations are a fact of life, an additional platform represents a chance at additional sales, and Amazon’s name carries a lot of weight in many circles.
